Malometsi

Set on a spectacular 1761-hectare estate high on the edge of the Maluti Mountains in the Eastern Free State in South Africa, this tranquil mountain retreat comprises of 7 custom designed luxury chalets that accompany an agave distillery and a wide array of outdoor leisure attractions.

Chalet #5 is a series of programmed rooms which surround a central deck with a firepit. The rooms and the pool take advantage of unique views and spectacular topography, while the courtyard deck offers privacy and a reprieve from the surroundings.

The rammed earth structure provides excellent thermal mass due to its high density and is well-suited for this climate. The rich red gradation of sand in the layers of the load bearing walls echo their surroundings.
